Mountain Biking - Core Skills

Mountain bikers come across a huge variety of features when out on the trails. This course is designed to equip you to deal with these features by linking a few basic moves together. Designed to be fun and interactive this course will enable participants to enjoy their mountain biking much more by looking at - the attack position, braking, gear changing, steering and cornering, weight shifting, line choice, climbing and decsending. In particular we will focus on:

  • The trackstand - praticing balance and poise on your mountain bike is perhaps the most important technique you can learn:biking is all about balance.
  • Manual Frint Wheel Lifts - you want control when clearing obstacles on the trail, the ability to lift the front wheel over an obstacle requires weight shift.
  • Power Assisted Front Wheel Lift - a slow speed skill used to clear obstacles such as rock steps, usually when climbing.
  • Rear Wheel Lifts - getting the front wheel over an obstacle is one thing but this still leaves the rear wheel. Transfer of body weight is crucial here again.

Once these techniques have been taught you will then have the chance to practice your newly enhanced skills on the trail alongside one of our professional coaches.
